Model of Ferry

The first historical records mentioning ferries on Daugava date back to the 15th century locating in places where crossing the river was the easiest for men and load. The ferrymen where often pursuing this craft for several generations near local towns, mills, taverns and kilns linked to transport routes. They started in early April as soon as the ice was gone, and continued until late November when it was back on the river again. Ferries were in action for particular hours in a day rather than round the clock; during winter all ferries were taken out of the river and prepared for the next season.
